Our world is indeed beautiful. Take a dive into Nature and you'll discover how far your imaginations couldn't reach. Where would you want to begin?
From the awesome bright of the day- as warm as cream, or the stream of wings that glide swiftly across the skies- so perfect like drawn lines. Would you take to the woods? to the trunk of every tree, so intricately built, or the school of fishes, in a world of their own! Our home planet, Earth remains man's greatest wonder!
But what if you were to wake up one morning and, the world was no more. You go out to find that the seas, once flourishing with life, were all gone. The lands, the natural support for all plant and animal life were nowhere to be found, and speak less of that, you awoke to meet this new day with such contaminated air, impossible for human breathing? What if our world as we knew it, dies?
The truth is; The Earth, our home is fading out. Like its rotation, this demise seems to unravels at a slow pace. This makes it impossible to see how urgent it is. But quit the fantasy and you can see how true.
It is natural to give little attention to certain things that do not affect us directly. Since we don't feel it, we don't think it either. And that hurts. It hurts the heart to see us play indifferent to the plea, the bemoaning and groans of the Earth and its treasures. Something needs to be done! if the Earth dies, we all die.
Think! we should think for a moment of the number of fishes that die spontaneously every day. Recent studies account that over 100,000 sea mammals, turtles, whales and sea birds are lost every year. Countless number of plastics swarm across the shorelines of our world's oceans. Think of the depletion of the ozone layer and the increase in flood rates owing to poor environmental practices and you can then begin to have a grasp of how fast things are changing or are we the ones changing things?
What about the air that is being contaminated daily? People walk the streets of some cities in China today, shielding from the polluted air around them. Coal burning industries choke the pure oxygen in pursuits to meet demands. There is also the adverse effects of climate change all around us and we watch these scenes go on replay?
We should quit this indifference and begin from our communities. We should arise to this tragedy and make it our own, because for every man-to keep the Earth is his responsibility. We should slumber no long but arise each day fully awakened to these realities. Our dear Earth's tribute cannot be written by its own watchmen!
There's a call therefore to live and let live, to go this path knowing that we live but for a moment and that the circle of life, although endangered, endures.
So here's one way you can begin to take a little yet bold step towards saving the Earth and its resources. It is by; Recycling.
Recycling in today's world is still a young bird's dream. You might probably have heard of the word but haven't bothered to find out what it really means. So what is recycling? The Britannica Encyclopedia defines recycling as the recovery and reprocessing of waste materials for use in new products. While the United States environmental agency (EPA) defines recycling as the process of collecting and processing materials that would otherwise be thrown away as trash and turning them into new products.
There's too much packaging of the items we by and little or no efforts towards collecting them to reproduce others. Now, How many times have you thought of throwing that sachet water package into the proper waste being or of recycling those plastic bottles? Well, those are sure chances you've got there to protect life on earth, and in the oceans too. So, what are the benefits of recycling?
Benefits of Recycling according to EPA
1. It saves energy.
2. Reduces the amount of waste sent to landfills and incinerators.
3. Conserves natural resources such as timber, water and minerals.
4. Prevents pollution by reducing the need to collect new raw materials.
5. Increases economic security by tapping a domestic source of raw materials.
6. It helps create jobs in the recycling and manufacturing industries.
STEPS TO RECYCLING OF MATERIALS
1. Collection and processing.
2. Manufacturing of recycled materials (Materials that can be recycled includes; Newspapers and paper towels, Aluminum, plastic, and glass soft drink containers, steel cans, plastic laundry detergent bottles)
3. Purchasing new products made from recycled materials too.
In this little way, you are preserving Mother Earth, and making room for more! Ask, today about the recycling plan in your city, and begin to make your own contribution for a better tomorrow.
